Michael Williams, S.J.
Inducted: Spring Hill College, 2001
Father Williams was born and raised in Philadelphia, and entered the Society of Jesus in 1962. With triple undergraduate majors in Classics, Philosophy, and English, he was awarded a full doctoral fellowship at the University of Southern California to pursue studies in English, with specialization in Medieval Literature.
After theological studies at the Jesuit School of Theology at Berkeley, he accepted the position of Assistant and, later, Associate Dean of The College of Arts and Sciences at Gonzaga University, and remained at Gonzaga University for 9 years. In 1985, he left academic administration to return to the classroom at Spring Hill College. He has lived in a student residence hall for over 30 years as a Jesuit chaplain, valuing the deeper interaction with students.
He is Faculty Adviser and member of three student organizations: Alpha Sigma Nu, The Knights of Columbus, and The Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity. He has served as Chair of the Department of English, and is currently serving his second term as elected chair of the Faculty Assembly.
He is excited about the new vision for Alpha Sigma Nu chapters as they work closely to promote the Mission and Identity of our Jesuit institutions. He served on the Program Committee for this Triennial Conference, very much interested in promoting a deepening of Ignatian spirituality and activities in Chapters and Clubs.
