About

Dedicated to Scholarship. Inspired to Loyalty. Focused on Service.

Jesuit higher education embraces the commitment to train agents of change, challenging students to promote faith and justice out in the world. Alpha Sigma Nu too, has a present call to action.   Members join our dynamic society of lifetime leaders with Ignatian vision and values who can act as collaborators with the Jesuits:

  • Chapters are contributing concretely to the missions of their universities and inspiring members to a greater loyalty, that is living the service of faith and promotion of justice

  • AΣN serves alumni in a new way that continues their identification and affiliation with the Jesuit mission and our Alumni Clubs encourage members to contribute to the Jesuit mission over their lifetime

The Fathers General have been our guides on this journey:

  • Pedro Arrupe urged AΣN members to emphasize scholarship, loyalty, and service AFTER graduation, asking members to reflect in their works their words the light of the gospel.

  • Hans Peter Kolvenbach emboldened students and faculty alike to a greater emphasis on the service of faith and the promotion of justice when he said, “The measure of Jesuit universities is not what our students do but how they become and the adult Christian responsibility they will exercise in the future.”

  • Adolfo Nicolás challenged, “Can Jesuit universities today, with energy and creativity, continue the legacy of Jesuit learned ministry and forge intellectual bridges between Gospel and culture, faith and reason, for the sake of the world and its great questions and problems?”

Our Mission

Alpha Sigma Nu, the honor society of Jesuit institutions of higher education, recognizes those students who distinguish themselves in scholarship, loyalty and service.  The only honor society permitted to bear the name Jesuit, ΑΣΝ encourages its members to a lifetime pursuit of intellectual development, deepening Ignatian spirituality, service to others, and a commitment to the core principles of Jesuit education.
