Loyola University New Orleans Celebrates the Spirituality of Pope Francis with “Year of Mercy” Lenten Series

It’s safe to say that Loyola University New Orleans, a Jesuit institution, loves to celebrate our first Jesuit Pope. For many students, second-lining a cardboard cutout of Pope Francis across campus during Pope-a-Palooza, an on-campus celebration of the pope’s first visit to the U.S., stands as a moment that defines the Loyola experience.

The real Pope Francis is no stranger to celebrations. Last year, he called an Extraordinary Jubilee Year of Mercy to last from December 8, 2015 (the Feast of the Immaculate Conception and the 50th anniversary of the closing of Vatican II) to November 20, 2016 (the Solemnity of Christ the King).

And at Loyola, we plan to celebrate this remarkable time by holding a five-week Lenten Series featuring lectures about the Spirituality of Pope Francis by our community and religious leaders.
