Rebecca Bavinger (Georgetown `06) founder of Destiny Foundation
Rebecca Bavinger (Georgetown `06) co-founded Destiny Reflection, a foundation in India created to make a real difference in the lives of women victimized by human trafficking. With her co-founder Smarita Sengupta, the pair continue to provide employment and life skills opportunities to Indian women in need. Read their description of the program from the Destiny Foundation website:
"Destiny Reflection, based in Kolkata, India, is a social enterprise committed to producing high quality accessories, home decor, and stationary products. We focus on providing livelihood opportunities for both, rescued women who have been victimized by human trafficking, and for those whose circumstances make them vulnerable to being trafficked. To that end, we foster skill development in conjunction with meaningful, well-paid employment. The women we invest in are from some of the most ostracized sectors of society and many of them have no family. Our mission is to enable our employees to overcome their situation and re-integrate into society through economic empowerment." ~ destinyreflection.org
