Gretchen
Major: Psychology
My parents have made so many sacrifices for my three siblings and me. They have given us so many opportunities and at the end of the day, all they care about is that we are happy and healthy. Though my parents do not show it or ever complain, money has always been a little tight in my family. Providing for four kids is not easy. Through it all my parents have been so resilient and strong. The Alpha Sigma Nu scholarship has reduced some worries around paying for college tuition. My parents and I are so thankful for the assistance that this scholarship has provided.

To me, being a member of Alpha Sigma Nu means being a participant in the Jesuit mission of cura personalis; it is my lifelong commitment to uphold scholarship, loyalty, and service in everything I do. The Alpha Sigma Nu scholarship will assist in meeting my needs as a student, such as food and textbooks. It will also help lift the financial burden of applying to medical schools where I hope to pursue a career in radiology or dermatology.

Major: Computer Science and Engineering
I grew up in San Jose, California and I like to participate in triathlons, play the violin, and crochet. After graduation, I’d like to travel and explore the world. I’m glad to be part of this honor society of likeminded individuals who pursue scholarship, loyalty, and service as much as I do.

I am a published fiction author under an alias and I am digital artist and designer. My plans after graduation are to continue my education. I have plans to get a Master’s Degree in Writing as well as attending the DAVE School in Orlando to learn special effects and animation. I also intend to continue my writing career by continuing to write and publish novels.
Membership in Alpha Sigma Nu to me means a dedication to Jesuit values. I am dedicated to faith, justice for the community, service to those in need, and a commitment to education and furthering my intellectual growth. It means bettering myself so I can be of better service to others.

Max
Double Major: English and Spanish, minor in Education
I grew up in Glastonbury, CT as a triplet, as well as one of five kids. After graduation, I am preparing to obtain a master’s in elementary education at Fairfield University while working full time as a co-teacher. Pursuing a master’s in education is expensive even with all the scholarships; the Alpha Sigma Nu scholarship will help cover the costs of my education as I work to become the best teacher I can be for all students. Membership in Alpha Sigma Nu means a far-reaching community of people who instill hope in me, as I know that there are people out there who are furthering the mission of doing good in the world. Knowing there is a collective working to uphold the dignity of all people gives me strength.

Major: Finance
The Alpha Sigma Nu scholarship will help motivate me to dedicate myself to my goals and aspirations. I would have never received this scholarship if I did not dedicate myself to the values of ASN and this will serve as a reminder of that. My plans after graduation are to continue my career in real estate and pursue an MBA degree in the near future.

I am majoring in nursing and minoring in healthcare administration and policy. I am also researching the lived experience of women with endometriosis. I especially appreciate Creighton’s emphasis on caring for the whole person and its thorough nursing curriculum.

Sarah
Major: Social Work
This scholarship will help provide me with the flexibility to transition to post-graduation life and pursue a job I am passionate about. Membership in Alpha Sigma Nu has been a unique experience of understanding how the Jesuit values have been integrated throughout my education. Whether through my studies in the classroom or through service opportunities, ASN has helped me to become more aware of the Jesuit values that underly these experiences. Membership in ASN has also been crucial in my development of leadership skills and understanding the importance of leading in an organization whose values align with your own. After graduation, I plan to stay in Omaha and work in Nebraska’s child welfare system as a case manager.

Major: Advertising, Public Relations
Membership in Alpha Sigma Nu means many things to me. It is a port that will bring me to interacting with likeminded students and graduates of the University of Scranton. It can bring me to graduates who work in similar fields to me and can bring the opportunities that I wouldn’t be able to get otherwise. Alpha Sigma Nu is also a connection to the Jesuit Identity for me. I’ve become increasingly more involved with volunteer opportunities since beginning my education at the University of Scranton. Interacting with professors and students on campus have shaped me into a more loving, forgiving, and service driven person. Though I am not religious, I’ve found here that the Jesuit ideologies really resonate with me. I’ve particularly changed as a person because of cura personalis. The idea of caring for the whole person taught me to love myself and go easy on myself like I never have before, and to care for others in a different light. I am honored to accept Jesuit ideologies as a part of my life beyond my college career through my lifelong membership with Alpha Sigma Nu.

Krystal
Major: Art & Design
The household I grew up in greatly valued hard work and the power of education as a means to a better quality of life. It is because of this I knew to always try to push myself to perform the best I could academically. My drive to excel because of the sacrifices my parents made coupled with my genuine love of learning allowed me to truly fall in love with school. Eventually, through hard work and dedication, I graduated high school with a weighted 4.3 GPA. I knew I wanted to attend an institution that upheld Jesuit values of social justice–values deeply integrated into the education I have received all my life.
