ASN mourns the loss of Bob Kennedy

Remembering ASN friend and NYC Alumni Club President, Bob Kennedy.

We at Alpha Sigma Nu have lost a good and steadfast friend.  Robert T. Kennedy (Canisius ’84), lost his fight with cancer on February 22, 2019. Bob had served as president of the ASN NYC Alumni Club since 2012, ensuring the longevity and activity of the Club.  He was instrumental in the success of the annual Career Night event at Fordham University, which allowed ASN student members the opportunity to network with ASN alumni from various professional fields.

In addition, Bob organized many service events, including coordinating an ASN group to volunteer twice annually at the Dwelling Place, a local homeless shelter for women.

Bob earned a BA in Computer Science and psychology from Canisius College in 1985 and was inducted into ASN in 1984.  His technology career began at Bear Sterns, then moved to the non-profit world working at Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, the National Kidney Foundation, and Girl Scouts of America.  At the time of his death, he served as flight crew operations director of the greater NYC area.

Bob was committed volunteer beyond his gift of time to ASN as his volunteerism included: assisting with accounting for his parish; volunteering at Little Learning, an early Childhood Development Program; leader of the Canisius College Alumni Society of Manhattan; volunteering for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of New York; and serving the Canisius College admissions, recruitment & development programs.

Bob was a member of the JetBlue Care Team, which reaches out to those in need within the company and those suffering from all manner of disasters.  Recalling Bob, JetBlue Pilot Neil Kellman said, “I smile when he calls,” describing his relationship with favorite scheduler.

Bob has attended three Triennial Conferences as a club leader, always sharing his enthusiasm about ASN and making new friends.  Bob was a positive force, funny, and full of life.  “I will remember Bob for his commitment to Alpha Sigma Nu, for his deep faith, and for his zest for life,” says Kate Gaertner, ASN’s Executive Director.  “ASN as an organization will feel this loss, but he will most especially be missed by his Alpha Sigma Nu friends.”
