The induction ceremony is the first experience of Alpha Sigma Nu for new members and must, therefore, be a representation of the Society’s prestige, history, tenets, and unique position as the Jesuit honor society.  Each ceremony includes the conferral of membership certificate and pin or pendant to inductees, as well as the communal reciting of the AΣN pledge by all members present, new and old.

The nomination and selection of new members and induction ceremony planning requires high attention to detail. Alpha Sigma Nu has resources to help guide you through the process.

Review the Chapter Adviser and Coordinator Handbook for specific instructions and use the Induction Timeline as a guide. The following induction forms and documents will be useful in planning and executing the Induction Ceremony in collaboration with the Alpha Sigma Nu Central Office.

  • Induction Fee Billing Form
    • Form is NOT for required for the ASN Central Office but is offered for your convenience should your school require an official billing record.
  • Ritual of Induction: a baseline script and order of ceremonies for the induction itself

The objective is to make the ceremony as impressive and inspiring as possible for the inductees and guests. This ceremony may be the only formal contact some members will have with Alpha Sigma Nu.

Chapter officers are urged to retain the essentials but are free to add elements that will enhance the ceremony. The Alpha Sigma Nu bylaws require that all inductees recite the Pledge during the Induction Ceremony.

It is desirable that each candidate be identified as clearly as possible. This may be accomplished by announcing each name during the ceremony and by publication of the names of those inducted in the Induction Program. The President of the college/university should take an active part in the ceremony. Often, the date of the ceremony is set according to the President’s availability, which requires setting the date far in advance.
