Volunteer Service Opportunity for ASN

Wednesday, January 29th

5:15 PM - 7:00 PM at

The Dwelling Place, 409 West 40th Street in Manhattan.

Once again, on January 29 volunteers from the New York City alumni club of Alpha Sigma Nu will host and serve dinner at The Dwellling Place, a ministry of the Franciscan Sisters of Allegheny to women in need of housing and social support on West 40th Street of Manhattan’s West Side, between Hudson Yards and the Port Authority Bus Terminal. www.thedwellingplaceofny.org

The Dwelling Place provides shelter to fifteen women, but on Wednesday evenings the doors open to other women in the community in need of a home-cooked meal, some good conversation, and a peaceful space. Many of these clients work, but cannot afford an apartment with kitchen facilities; others simply have nowhere else to eat and to feel some genuine dignity.

The meal is prepared by The Dwelling Place’s full-time cook. We volunteers set the tables, serve the women “restaurant style” (rather than having them wait in a line), provide some pleasant company, and help with a quick clean-up. We arrive by 5:15 P.M. for a short orientation and the women come to the table around 5:30 P.M. We volunteers are “out the door” by 7:00 P.M. Some of us have become “regulars” and are recognized right away by the clients. So, please join ASN in this important service project. And we hope to do this again on Wednesday, October 30!

Volunteers should contact Bill Buckley at wbuckley@garbarini-scher.com to register.
